I decided to do something different for this week's Skincare Sundays post. I recently became addicted to ombre nails and thought it would be fun to share with you all how to do your own ombre, gradient nails they're easier than you think!
Some things you'll need: a nude or white nail polish, nail polish in your choice of colors, makeup sponges, cuticle oil optional, base coat, and top coat.
colors from left to right: essie topless & barefoot, essie chastity, opi casino royale, sally hansen blue me away
I decided to do a gradient using colors from different color families, but you can choose to do a same color family ombre instead. Make sure you choose a light shade, medium shade, and darker shade. And of course, you need to have a nude or white polish.
Start by painting all nails with a nude or white polish after your base coat of course. This gives a nice even foundation for the rest of the colors. Make sure your nails are COMPLETELY dry before moving onto the next step!!
Are your nails dry yet? If not, don't start on this step!! If so, start with your lightest color and paint a stripe on a makeup sponge. You should work quickly as the nail polish dries pretty quickly!
Follow with your medium color.
Then your last or darkest color.
Once you've got all three stripes painted, stamp the sponge across your nail.
Yes, nail polish will get everywhere, but don't worry, we'll remove any excess at the end!
If one stamp across the nail doesn't leave you with a great color payoff, repeat the stripes on the sponge, and stamp again! Don't worry about trying to re-stamp perfectly as you did last time, a little color mixing will help the ombre, gradient effect!
The finished look should be something like the above. Now take a q-tip or a small brush and dip it into nail polish remover to carefully remove the excess nail polish on the skin.
Add a layer of your favorite top coat to seal the deal!
And that's it for ombre, gradient nails! Not too bad right?
