Copycat

purse :: old navy

One thing I love about fashion is that you can re-create almost any look without selling a kidney to do it. All it takes is some brain movement. To be honest, I hate buying clothes and shoes at full price. Trends & seasons come and go, everything goes on sale. Now that's not to say that I don't enjoy my occasional splurge on Vince or Equipment, I'm just particularly picky on when to indulge and when to save. A smart fashionista always knows when, where, & what to buy (if it sounds like day-trading to you, then we're on the right track).

To make a point, I decided to re-create a look I saw on the cover of Madewell's recent catalogue, at a 10th of the cost (fyi if you wanted to purchase this outfit at Madewell, all items are currently available) to show you that it's not necessary to invest in every item you own. Brace yourselves now because I'm going to look like a real copycat.

So what's the verdict, who wore it better? We look like twins, well minus the fact that Solange is wearing a cardigan and I'm wearing a sweater, and she has curly hair, and longer legs...but you get my point. Now although it's true that the quality at Forever 21 or H&M isn't always there, if you pick and choose what you buy, you'll walk out with a steal of an outfit!

  9. Love the outfit! I saw that sweater at H&M yesterday and wanted to try it on, but the rack said $7 and the tag said $15 so I wasn't sure which it was and decided I didn't need a $15 sweater, haha. :) Looks like I was wrong!

  31. That's how a smart fashionista does it! I have to confess that sometimes I spend too much money on pieces of clothing very similar to those that I already have! I should recycle my wardrobe more often ;) Nice look btw.

  39. An almost perfect replica!! Well done :)
    And your philosophy on when/how to spend your money on clothing is right up my alley... do you ever go thrifting? That's where I save most of my money and try out new trends for cheap in case I don't end up liking them!

  44. Wow great job.. So true sometimes to survive all the trends we have to be practical and really wise on our choices in buying stuff. Fashion in fact is re-resurfacing every season after season -- i have this military jacket from 2 years ago and who would think i can wear them again cuz it's in trend now.. Hehe so smart fashionista u are!! Lovely post hun..
