Skincare Sundays :: Summer Skincare Essentials

Summer Skincare Essentials

As sort of a warning to this post, all of the skincare items listed here are specific to my skin. Therefore the products mentioned below may or may not work for you. I have combination skin that doesn't really break out and I've figured out a pretty good skincare regimen to keep my skin happy.

I used to use a lot of skincare products from Shiseido and Lancome. However, about a year ago I tried to switch to more natural skincare because 1) companies with more natural skincare products generally do not test on animals and 2) products that are not packed full of chemicals and artificial fragrances are much better for the skin. Most of my skincare products now come from two main companies, Lush & 100 Percent Pure.

1. Angels on Bare Skin

I like to use a gentle cleanser in the mornings because your face doesn't get dirty while sleeping and therefore there's no need to deep clean and completely strip the skin in the morning. I've been using Angels on Bare Skin for a year now (switched from Lush's Herbalism which is amazing for those who have oily/problem skin) and it's one of those cleansers that I stock up on well before I run out so that I never have to be without it. Kaolin clay is the cleansing agent (no harsh soaps!), lavender balances out the skin, and ground almond shells provide a nice exfoliation, leaving the face soft & bright!

Controls oil, tightens pores, and fights pimples - love this toner! See my previous Skincare Sundays post for more about this toner.

This moisturizer is definitely my staple moisturizer for the summer. It's packed full of citrus (pineapple, papaya, and lemon) to absorb oil & brighten; but the best part is that it leaves the skin matte so you can start the day with a fresh face!

I love this roll-on gel. I'm on my second (soon to be third) tube of this eye gel. The gel is light & cool which feels great in the summer, and the "roller" aspect of this eye gel really works wonders on any puffiness I may be experiencing.

I use Lovely Jubblies as an eye cream, even though that's not the designed purpose of this product. Lovely Jubblies is actually a breast cream. Yes, a breast cream. It's supposed to help firm & lift, but a sales associate at Lush actually told me that it works wonderfully as an eye cream, so I tried it. Guess what? It's amazing as an eye cream; it definitely lives up to its claims. I've tried what feels like a million eye creams (Ole Henriksen, Shiseido, Lancome, DHC, Philosophy, Biotherm, Kiehl's, Stri-vectin) and this one is the best in my opinion. And because it's supposed to be used as a breast cream, you get a generous amount for $24.95. That means you have enough eye cream for 3 years and some leftover for those lovely jubblies!

This eye cream is supposed to get rid of dark circles & help with puffiness. I don't really have any dark circles but I like this eye cream because 1) it's packed full of natural, super beneficial ingredients and 2) it does reduce puffiness. I mainly use this just as an extra boost for my eye area; you really can't beat the ingredients in here. Plus, it's only $19 for 1 oz. of pure natural goodness - how can you beat the price/quantity/effectiveness ratio?

Like I said, over the last 8 years I've tried too many eye creams. From expensive high-end to inexpensive drug store eye creams, I've tried them all. These three are my top choices - they're all relatively inexpensive but effective, and to top it all off they're au naturel! And yes, I use them in the order listed above: 1) Sephora 2) Lush 3) 100 Percent Pure.

I ALWAYS wear sunscreen. I gravitate towards this sunscreen because 1) it has both UVA/UVB protection (UVA causes wrinkles) 2) it is a physical sunscreen as opposed to a chemical sunscreen (meaning it contains more natural ingredients) 3) it's hard to find a sunscreen that is not tested on animals but this one isn't!
